The Da Vinci Program

Summary

Program Type: Honors program in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS)

Eligibility: Students must remain in CAS; switching to another college ends participation

Seminars: 4 seminars (ideally one per semester for first two years)

Requirements Waived: CAS language and natural science requirements

Still Required: UM-level requirements (including cognates); WRS 105 + WRS/ENG 106 (at present, there is no substitution for these two specific courses)

Admissions: Students are invited by Admissions based on academic profile and broad interests

Notes: In certain circumstances, students can "double-count" daV courses toward cognate(s), major, or minor. While as a general policy the College will not double-count courses taken for a program that requires fewer than 15 credits to be fulfilled (daV is 12 credits total; cognates are 9 credits; most minors are 15 credits), we do not want to create a hindrance for students to take daV courses and are willing to be flexible as need arises.

Students can be both Foote Fellows and in the daV program, in which case Foote takes precedence (i.e. they do not necessarily have to take all UM-level requirements)

Program Overview

Purpose & Structure: Fosters interdisciplinary learning by connecting arts, humanities, social sciences, and STEM in small cohort-based seminars exclusive to daV students

Advising & Registration: Regular advisors handle majors/minors; program director advises on seminar requirements

Flexibility: Missed seminars can be made up; study abroad and independent study options may count

Benefits: Honors designation on transcript; networking and unique interdisciplinary courses; certain waived requirements (see above)
